Deputies Suspect Someone Is Shooting At Cars In Jefferson County

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4) - Detectives with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department are working to solve a mystery after car windows are shattering while traveling near C-470 and Highway 285.

The sheriff's department says it happened three separate times. Two occurred on C-470 near Alameda Parkway and another on Highway 285 near Highway 8.

Although some drivers reported a gun shot or loud boom before the window shattered, nothing was found.

"Out of nowhere there was a loud bang, explosion," Wendy Soble from Highlands Ranch said.

Soble is still terrified.

"I screamed, I was crying," she said.

Soble showed CBS4's Tom Mustin the damage to her car window, apparently shattered by a bullet as she drove along C-470 near Alameda Parkway on Tuesday.

"All of the sudden there was a loud crash. I kind of ducked for cover," she said. "Glass was flying and falling out of the window in every direction."

Soble said she panicked as she felt cold air rushing in.

"My immediate response was that someone was shooting at me. It sounded like it, it looked like it. There was no one around me; there's no way I could have been hit by a rock."

Earlier this month a woman also called deputies after seeing a man firing a gun across Highway 8 near South Turkey Creek Road from a brown or gold 4-door Honda sedan. That person was never found.

"We can't say for certain they were shot out but we are concerned because we've had these three incidents," Jacki Kelley with the sheriff's department said.

"It's not a game. It's not funny. Somebody's going to get really hurt. I'm glad it's not me," Soble said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.
