BYU Dominates Colorado Mesa 84-60
PROVO, Utah (AP) - Matt Carlino scored 16 points as BYU easily beat Colorado Mesa 84-60 Saturday night in the second round of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic.
Colorado Mesa, a Division II program, shot 10 of 22 in the first half, including five 3-pointers, to keep the game close. BYU (4-0) went into halftime up 36-28.
The Cougars blew the game open after the break, ripping off a 21-1 run in the first eight minutes of the second half. Carlino scored six points during the run.
The Mavericks did cut the lead to 13 on a Landon Vermeer 3-pointer with 5:18 to play, but BYU responded with an 8-0 run, killing the comeback. Vermeer led Colorado Mesa with 23 points.
This was BYU's third-straight game with six players to hit double figures. Kyle Collinsworth added six assists to go along with his 12 points, and Nate Austin pulled down 12 rebounds.
