DENVER, Colo. (CBS4) – Police say eight businesses in Northwest Denver have been the victim of a burglar who breaks in overnight.

Authorities say the burglar uses a rock to smash in the front doors before trying to make off with the cash at each of the businesses which are mostly restaurants.

At the family owned La Casita restaurant, located at 36th Avenue and Tejon Street, security cameras captured footage of the burglar in action.

"He runs and smashes in the window and he tried to open the cash drawer but he couldn't do it so he goes to get a tool and he fails at that. So comes back and goes for a TV in the dining room area," said Paul Saragosa, a manager at La Casita.

The thief was unable to take anything from La Casita.

"They get the misconception that owners keep money in the facility after hours and we don't. We take it straight to the bank," said Saragosa.

Police believe the suspect is the same person, possible even two people. They hope that the images captured by the security system will help stop the series of robberies.

"There are small businesses trying to make it in a community, and give to a community and you've got some thief that wants to do damage and hurt their business," said Denver Police Spokesman Sonny Jackson.

Saragosa hopes that the picture of the suspect will allow someone to help send him to jail so that his family can go on with their business in peace.

"Just got to go in the next day, clean up the mess and get back to what you do," said Saragosa.
