DENVER (CBS4) – Police in Southeast Denver shot a man who was described as suicidal on Friday morning.

Officers were called to 1211 South Quebec at approximately 9 a.m. They were then allegedly confronted with a man with a butcher knife who threatened them.

Officers then shot the man several times with a stun gun, which didn’t stop him. They then shot him with a gun.

The shots frightened neighbors.

“We’re getting ready for breakfast and that’s when we heard the gunshots ring out,” a neighbor said. “It was a few; I don’t know exactly … we dove into our hallway there because I’m prior military, so I know what a gunshot sounds like.”

The man was injured and taken to Denver Health Medical Center and is listed in critical condition. His name hasn’t been released.
