Police Search For Man Accused Of Groping At DU

DENVER (CBS4) - A sexual assault occurred near the University of Denver campus and police hope video of a car helps them track the man responsible.

The attack happened Thursday night in the 2200 block of High Street near the DU campus where police say a female student walking along the sidewalk was groped. It happened around 9 p.m. and campus police sent an email alert to students.

"I think it's kind of scary walking back here because we walk here all the time," freshman Rachel Garbrecht.

Denver police say the suspect headed southbound after the assault. He's described as a Hispanic man, 23 to 27 years of age and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red flannel.

Campus surveillance cameras captured video of what could be the suspect's car turning left on to Warren Avenue.

Until the suspect is found police are urging students to take precautions.

"It's a good idea at any point, especially at night time, for students to be walking in groups in the DU area," Sgt. Steve Warneke with Denver police said.

There is a $2,000 Crime Stoppers reward for information leading to an arrest.
