Retailers Start Holiday Hiring, Other Companies Thinking Long Term

Many retailers have already started their holiday hiring, which is great news for anyone looking to turn a part-time opportunity during the holidays into a full-time opportunity after Jan. 1. But other companies are thinking more long-term right now and looking to fill full-time positions.

The following is a partial list of companies hiring, according to the Colorado Department of Labor:

- Exempla Healthcare is adding 494 jobs
- Macy's is adding 515 jobs
- Banner Health is adding 540 jobs
- The University of Colorado is adding 905 jobs
- Vail Resorts is adding 1,200 jobs

On Tuesday Walmart kicked off the holiday season with an on-the-spot promotion ceremony at Lakeside Walmart, announcing that the retailer is kicking off the holiday season with a special focus on more career opportunities for associates.

In addition, Walmart also said it will promote 25,000 associates before the end of the year. They say they plan to hire 55,000 seasonal workers nationwide.

Walmart has opened 16 stores in Colorado this year, and in the Denver market, they've opened 10 new "Neighbor" markets with two more coming this week.
