Multi-Vehicle Crash Closes I-70 In The High Country For Hours

SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A multi-vehicle accident forced the closure of westbound Interstate 70 from Copper Mountain to East Vail Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, the chain reaction crash involved a semi-truck. The truck's trailer split apart and the cleanup was expected to take hours.

Most traffic was being detoured to State Highway 91 south over Fremont Pass to the Leadville area and then northwest over Tennessee Pass via U.S. 24 through Minturn and back to I-70.

CDOT said semi-trucks were not allowed to use the detour but rather park at Copper Mountain's Corn Lot, about 1/2 mile south of the I-70/SH 91 interchange.

It's not clear if anybody was injured.
