LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) – Some dentists in Longmont want kids to still have fun trick-or-treating this year but are giving them an option to trade in their candy for cash.
This Halloween trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Dental Horizons in Longmont and receive $1 per pound. It’s called the “Halloween Candy Buy Back” and will support troops through Operation Gratitude.
Candy can be dropped off at Dental Horizons in Longmont on Nov. 5. from 4 to 6 p.m.
“Drs. Kelson & Joesaar have joined in the movement to promote home health care by giving away dollars, light up toothbrushes and local favors in exchange for cavity-provoking candy,” Kathleen Bahe with Dental Horizons said in a statement.
The dentists say they want to help parents who want to limit damage caused by large amounts of candy.
“We want to encourage preventative care and raise awareness of the benefits of healthy eating and great dental hygiene,” Bahe said.
The collected candy will be donated to Operation Gratitude. The nonprofit group then ships packages overseas to military troops.
“The letters and cards that are shipped with the candy from each young donor are instrumental in raising the spirits of our service men and women away from home.”
