Father Remembered For Honoring Son After Death In Colorado

KIT CARSON, Colo. (CBS4)- Friends and family are remembering a father who was walking across the country to raise awareness about the deadly effects of bullying when he was killed in Colorado.

A truck struck and killed Joe Bell during his walk on the shoulder of Highway 40 near Kit Carson.

Bell's nationwide walk started in Oregon and he was planning to finish in New York City two years later.

Bell's son, Jaden, was bullied at school for being a gay teen. He killed himself on school grounds.

Bell took his very personal message on the road, talked to school groups and anyone who would listen.

He even talked to schools in the Denver metro area.

Bell posted video blogs of his journey as he continued along his journey, "I just want to thank anyone out there who supports me and believes in me."

A Facebook page dedicated to his walk for change initially solicited donations for anti-bullying education but now asks for donations for his funeral.

The driver who struck Bell has been charged with reckless driving. He leaves behind his younger son.
