SAN DIEGO, Colo. (CBS4) – A brother and sister from Denver have been reunited after a 30-year separation.

The reunion took place in San Diego Saturday morning. Navy Cmdr. Cindy Murray said she’s been looking for her brother, Navy Chief Aviation Ordnanceman Robert Williamson for a long time. They last saw each other in the late 1970s.

The pair shares a father, but when he moved on the siblings lost touch. A similar career path with the Navy actually played a big role in bringing them back together.

“Never in a million years did I think I’d be standing here in this situation,” Williamson said.

“It’s the greatest thing. I’ve looked for him for a long, long time; and here he is and it’s just great,” Murray said.

The last time they saw each other Murray was 14 and Williamson was just 6 years old.

“We shared different mothers, my dad went a different way from my mother and we just lost touch,” Murray said.

“After years of searching Murray asked her chief petty officer for help, who was able to reach Williamson by phone. He was living just 300 miles away.

“He said, ‘I’m pretty sure my boss is your sister, do you have a sister named Cindy?’’ And I just went silent,” Williamson said.

That call led to another and another and eventually to a long-awaited embrace.

The two plan to spend this weekend catching up on all the time they’ve missed.
