Lincoln County Joins Effort To Create 51st State

LINCOLN COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Some residents of Lincoln County want to form their own state.

County commissioners joined nine other northeastern Colorado counties in putting the 51st State Initiative on the November ballot.

Organizers of the secession effort say their interests are not being represented at the state Capitol. Many people are upset over gun control measures passed by the state legislature and they want to create their own state.

Even if voters approve the secession the U.S. Congress would have the final say.
