Suspect Charged With Murder In Death Of Broomfield Man

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4) - A man arrested after another man was found dead in the street in Broomfield over the weekend has been charged with first-degree murder.

Matthew Patrick Burnett has been charged in the death of James Clifford Fernandez.

Police in Broomfield were called about 6:25 a.m. Saturday about a man lying in the street in the 2500 block of 134th Circle. When officers arrived they found Fernandez, 34, dead.

"The investigation revealed there had been an altercation at the suspect's residence between the victim and the suspect, which allegedly resulted in the victim's death," police said in a statement.

Police arrested Burnett, 32, in connection with the Fernandez's death.

Police said Fernandez, of Westminster, had spent the evening with Burnett and a woman at 2551 W. 134th Circle.

How Fernandez died has not bee released.

Burnett is scheduled to be advised of those charges at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in Broomfield County District Court.
