CU Police Arrest Sex Assault Suspect
STORY UPDATED: In this case, Klumb pled guilty to a lesser charge, received a deferred sentence, and successfully completed terms and conditions so the case was dismissed, and he no longer is required to be listed on the sex offender registry.
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- Police on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder have arrested a sexual assault suspect wanted in an incident that occurred last month.
Police arrested Scott Klumb on two counts of sexual assault on Wednesday.
On July 9, a female CU student told police she was sexually assaulted at her Smiley Court apartment on the CU Boulder campus in the early morning hours of July 4.
The woman told police that Klumb, 27, was staying at her apartment. She and Klumb were acquaintances.
She told police that after they had consensual cuddling she fell asleep but later woke to find Klumb assaulting her.
She told him to leave her apartment and he complied.
During the investigation police obtained text messages which provided corroborating evidence to the assault.
Klumb was arrested at his off-campus Boulder apartment shortly after 8 a.m. He is not a CU student.
Klumb remains in custody at the Boulder County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
"Most sexual assaults on college campuses involve situations where the suspect and victim are known to each other, " said CU-Boulder Police Commander Robert Axmacher. "The vast majority of these assaults are never reported to police. We applaud the courage of this young woman in coming forward."
