The crime happened at 11:50 a.m. on Colfax between Broadway and Lincoln. A witness told CBS4 it started when two men started exchanging words with each other across the street. One was with a woman and one man walked into the middle of the road.

"This guy on the south side fired two shots. The guy in the middle of the street fired four shots at the other guy and then after that they both started running," said witness Gerard Serrano.

Police also said there were weapons recovered. They said a gun belonging to one of the man was found in an alley of off Colfax between Grant and Sherman streets.

"It scared the heck out of me. Everybody started running and hiding and I just kind of froze -- because they weren't shooting at me -- so I just kind of froze and watched it all," Serrano said.

Colfax was closed between Broadway and Lincoln for almost 3 hours and RTD had to put multiple bus detours in place.

The state Capitol was on lockdown for a short time.

Civic Center Park is popular during lunch time on Tuesdays and Thursdays for Civic Center Eats, which features some of the city's best food trucks.
