Colorado Judges Decline To Change 1,200 Sentences
DENVER (AP) — Colorado judges have declined to change prison sentences in more than 1,200 cases that officials said may have mistakenly allowed convicts to reduce their time.
The Denver Post reports the figures were released by the Department of Corrections on Wednesday.
Judges corrected sentences in 276 percent of 1,514 potentially questionable cases. They left 1,238 sentences unchanged, the Post reported.
Gov. John Hickenlooper asked the department to audit thousands of cases after a sentencing error led to the early release of Evan Ebel, a parolee suspected of killing corrections chief Tom Clements in March.
Ebel was released in January, four years early, because he was erroneously given a concurrent sentence.
