DENVER (CBS4) - The first-ever "Denver Days" is underway. Mayor Michael Hancock helped kick off the event Saturday morning.

The mayor even picked up a paint roller and removed some graffiti.

Denver Days is made up of community events that span everything from neighborhood cleanups to ice cream socials. Hancock says it's a great way to celebrate civic pride.

"It's just a way to remember … the spirit of the people who helped establish our city by volunteering their time and their money to build railroads to connect to the Transcontinental Railroad," Hancock said. "Throughout the week there are going to be 130 events in the city of Denver."

Denver Days continues through next weekend. From now on out the first Saturday of August will be known as Denver Day.
