BARCELONA, Spain (AP) – Missy Franklin won her fourth gold medal of the world swimming championships with a strong anchor leg for the United States in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay Thursday.

Katie Ledecky earned her third gold of the meet, swimming leadoff for the Americans. Ledecky led France’s Camille Muffat at the first exchange, but the U.S. slipped back to second — first behind the French, then Australia — as Shannon Vreeland and Karlee Bispo took over for the middle legs.

But the U.S. was close enough when Franklin dove in for the final 200. She zipped by Australia’s Alicia Coutts and won going away in 7 minutes, 45.14 seconds. Australia settled for silver in 7:47.08, while France took the bronze in 7:48.43.
