Aurora Police Investigate Mom Who Left Kids Alone In Car

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Aurora are investigating a mother who left her five children alone in a vehicle. They were alerted to the situation after she rushed one of her children to the hospital.

Police said the 2-year-old child is on life support and in critical condition.

Officers responded to a hospital emergency room in Aurora about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday after the mother arrived with the little girl. She was unresponsive.

Investigators believe the woman left five children, ranging in age from 10 months to 10 years old, alone inside the vehicle on Tuesday for an undetermined amount of time.

She left the vehicle running outside a home in the 15400 block of E. Louisiana Avenue. It is not known how long they were left inside.

When the mother returned to the vehicle the 2-year-old was found with her head caught between the window and the frame.

Police said they will continue to investigate the case along with the Crimes Against Children unit. The mother has not been charged at this time.

"It's way too early to tell about charges at this point but we are working with the Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office to make sure that appropriate charges will be filed," said Aurora Police Sgt. Cassidee Carlson.

It could take up to several weeks to determine what those charges may be.
