National Guard Holds Emergency Training Drills
DENVER (CBS4) - The Colorado National Guard took part in a large-scale training exercise across the metro area on Tuesday.
At Denver Health Medical Center, one of the locations for the drill, role playing simulated a chemical leak and the guard was called out to track down the source and contain it. Emergency responders also rushed to decontaminate the "victims."
Drill participants were also sharpening their skills on what to do when someone has come in contact with a hazardous material.
"This gives us the opportunity to run through our operating procedures. Also it's an opportunity to make the contacts with the people we would be working with in the real world," Colorado National Guard spokesman Lt. Skye Robinson said.
Guard members say they constantly train so they're always ready to handle a disaster.
