DENVER (CBS4) - The owner of a Denver gold sellers store said things seemed unusually quiet on Saturday morning minutes before a car came crashing off the street and into the front of his store.

Security video from a neighboring business and obtained by CBS4 showed the car knocking down a tree as it plowed onto the sidewalk and nearly hit a man who was walking a few feet away.

The video shows the man jumping backwards to get out of the way when the car came flying in front of him.

Dave Eichenberger, the owner of Dave's Gold Silver Diamonds on 548 South Broadway, said he thinks the driver may have been influenced by drugs or alcohol.

"He looked dazed and confused. His eyes were glassy," he said. "The police found things on him that they shouldn't have."

Eichenberger, who was in the store at the time, said the crash was very loud.

"We heard this screech, then a whack and a boom and it was in the blink of an eye," he said. "The impact was pretty pronounced.

"We were just talking about how it was an unusually quiet Saturday."

Eichenberger's store wasn't heavily damaged.

So far the name of the driver hasn't been released. He was hospitalized after the incident and it wasn't clear if he would be facing any charges.

The man on the sidewalk declined CBS4's request to interview him about the incident.
