DENVER (CBS4) - Police said Asher Lesyshen's mother shot and killed him and then turned the gun on herself at their home outside of Steamboat Springs in May.

Lisa Lesyshen is now paralyzed. Her court appearance went on as scheduled on Friday. She listened in by speakerphone as she laid paralyzed in her hospital bed at Denver Health Medical Center.

No charges were read and no bond was set.

Court documents show that the 9-year-old was shot five times in his home. His mother was shot just once. The documents state that Lisa Leyseshen and her husband Michael Kirlan were going through a separation. Kirlan was apparently in a relationship with another woman.

During a search of the home investigators said they found a suicide note that read, "Remember you are responsible for what has happened here and you are the person that caused it." The note was signed "Lisa and Asher."

Lisa Lesyshen has been at Denver Health since May 29 when the shooting happened in Stage Coach, just outside of Steamboat Springs. She's been in custody ever since and as she recovers at the hospital a guard stands at her hospital room door.

Lisa Lesyshen is charged with first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death and domestic violence.
