Gun Violence Protest Set For Movie Shooting Anniversary

AURORA, Colo. (AP) - A gun violence protest and vigil are planned on the anniversary of the mass shootings at an Aurora movie theater.

Mayors Against Illegal Guns says the event will start with a news conference at noon on July 19. Participants will read the names of gun violence victims until 12:38 a.m. on July 20, the time of the shootings began.

The group says a survivor of the 2012 shootings and family members of victims will participate.

The event will be at Cherry Creek State Park.

Twelve people were killed and 70 injured when a gunman opened fire in the theater. James Holmes pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to multiple counts of murder and attempted murder.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Holmes' trial is scheduled to start in February.
