Arvada Day Care Under Investigation After Toddler Falls In Swimming Pool

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) - The owner of a day care is under investigation after a 2-year-old fell into a backyard pool Tuesday morning.

Arvada police say it could depend on how well the child recovers at The Children's Hospital and on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

The Arvada home is also a licensed day care. Police say an officer was the first to arrive and was able to perform CPR. Police say the pool is fenced but it's unclear if a gate was left open.

"We are still investigating the scene. We do know that it was not prescribed pool time, the child did wander away," Jill McGranahan with Arvada police said.

The day care has a current state license with only one recorded complaint in 2002.

The complaint was a Level 3 or moderate complaint, meaning there was an allegation of a lack of supervision or too many children in the home. The complaint was eventually cleared.

Police are still looking in to how long the boy was in the water before someone noticed and called 911.
