Man Committed Suicide After Starting Fire

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Authorities responding to a fire in Aurora at an apartment overnight found a man's and determined that he took his own life.

Firefighters responded to the fire at approximately 2 a.m. at an apartment building near Interstate 225 and Exposition Avenue.

Crews battling the fire had to break through a door that was allegedly blocked by a couch in order to put out the fire, but were able to put it out quickly.

The fire was contained to one unit, but the building was evacuated for a short time.

One resident who called 911 told CBS4 he saw smoke, but that shortly before that he also heard a loud bang.

Aurora officials told CBS4 there was a gun involved in the death of the man found dead and determined that it was a suicide.

The identity of the man who died has not been released.
