Small Vintage Plane Crashes Into Field In Wolcott

EAGLE, Colo. (AP/CBS4) — Authorities say two people were killed in a small airplane crash in the town of Wolcott northwest of Vail.

Kris Friel, a spokeswoman for the Eagle County Sheriff's Office, says the vintage Chinese Yak airplane took off at about 8 a.m. Sunday and crashed into a field near a subdivision about half an hour later. The pilot and the sole passenger were killed. There names haven't been released.

No injuries were reported on the ground.

The plane was based at the Eagle County Regional Airport. Weather at the time of the crash was calm and clear.

Friel says the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash. She did not release the names or ages of the victims.
