Walsenburg Placed On Pre-Evacuation Notice As Wildfire Rages

WALSENBURG, Colo. (CBS4) - The East Peak Fire in Huerfano County has grown to more than 1,000 acres and has led to an order for a pre-evacuation notice for the Southern Colorado city of Walsenburg.

There is a mandatory evacuation order in place from east of La Veta to the west side of Interstate 25 and south of Highway 160 to the Las Animas county line.

The fire is burning near East Spanish Peak.

The fire burned through a Boy Scout camp and has destroyed some structures. Boy scouts who had been at the camp evacuated and stayed overnight at an American Red Cross shelter that had been set up in Walsenburg.
