DENVER (AP) — The University of Denver has extended men’s lacrosse coach Bill Tierney’s contract through 2017.

The Pioneers have made four straight NCAA tournament trips under Tierney and reached the semifinals twice, including this year. They’re 50-20 overall under Tierney, including 28-5 at home and have won three Eastern College Athletic Conference regular season titles and one ECAC tournament championship.

Tierney has been named ECAC Coach of the Year twice.

The Pioneers, who lost to top-seeded Syracuse 9-8 in the NCAA semifinals last week, are moving to the Big East in 2014, joining Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John’s, Villanova and Rutgers.
