Convicted Arsonist Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4)- He was convicted of setting fire to the home of his estranged wide last summer and on Friday he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the crime.

Kenneth Rascon was sentenced to 12 years behind bars on Friday.

He set fire to the Arvada home in July 2012. His estranged wife and children had just left the home when the fire started but the family pets were still inside. The family dog was killed in the fire and two other pets were injured.

In court Rascon's defense attorney said he was depressed when he set fire to the home.

Rascon said he was sorry for what he had done and most sorry that he couldn't apologize to his children.

Because of a protection order Rascon has been prohibited from speaking to his children since his arrest.
