Investigation Focuses On Wild Horse Buyer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - Officials in Southern Colorado are now investigating a wild horse buyer who has allegedly confessed to shipping hundreds of federally protected horses out of state, possibly for slaughter.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports authorities are looking into Tom Davis to see if he illegally sold the horses for slaughter.

Colorado law requires inspections for livestock shipped more than 75 miles, but records show Davis bought more than 1,700 horses since 2009 and shipped only 765. The rest are unaccounted for.

Davis has denied any wrongdoing.
