Former Broomfield Gymnastics Coach Charged With Sexual Assault On Child

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4)- Several counts of sexual assault on a child have been filed against the former Broomfield gymnastics coach.

The charges allege that Robert Edward Barke sexually assaulted two juvenile males from Oct. 2004 to June 2007 while he was their gymnastics coach at Xtreme Altitude Gymnastics in Broomfield.

The victims were ages 12 to 14 at the time the alleged assaults began.

Barke, 32, has been charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust as a pattern of abuse, sexual assault on a child and unlawful sexual contact concerning the two victims.

Barke waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday. He will be arraigned June 20.

Barke now lives in Houston, Texas. He was arrested March 27 and released on $100,000 bond. Barke previously was a gymnastics coach in Grand Junction.
