Marine From Parker Killed In Afghanistan

DENVER (AP) - The Defense Department says Marine Cpl. David M. Sonka of Parker was killed during combat operations in Afghanistan.

The military said Monday the 23-year-old Coloradan died Saturday in Farah Province along with 39-year-old Marine Staff Sgt. Eric D. Christian of Warwick, N.Y.

Both were assigned to the 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Sonka is the second Colorado serviceman killed in two days. Air Force Capt. Mark T. Voss of Colorado Springs was among three killed when an aerial refueling tanker crashed Friday in Kyrgyzstan.

In addition, two soldiers assigned to Colorado's Fort Carson died Thursday from injuries they suffered in a vehicle accident in Kuwait. They were 25-year-old Spc. Trinidad Santiago Jr. of San Diego, and 21-year-old Pfc. Charles P. McClure of Stratford, Okla.
