Judge Sentences Mother Who Strangled Son To 42 Years Behind Bars

DENVER (CBS4) - A judge has sentenced a mother to 42 years in prison after admitting to killing her infant son.

Sharrieckia Page, 23, pleaded guilty in March to second degree murder charges in the death of 7-month-old Torrey Brown Jr. She apologized to her family during a sentencing hearing on Friday in Adams County District Court.

Page strangled and killed her son on March 27, 2012, and threw him in a dumpster. The body was found 53 days later in a garbage dump.

Prosecutors said on Friday that Page repeatedly made threats to kill Brown Jr. prior to the crime. Chief Deputy District Attorney Caryn Datz told the judge Page said she "put her son face down in his bassinet to muffle his cries, piling blankets and laundry on top of him."
