DA Seeks To Try Teen As Adult In Man's Death
GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) — The Jefferson County district attorney says he wants to prosecute a teen as an adult in the death of a man in Lakewood.
The 15-year-old boy is currently charged, as a juvenile, with 18 counts including first-degree murder in the stabbing death of 22-year-old Jose Barrera-Mendoza.
Police found Barrera-Mendoza and two other stabbing victims Sunday after a report of a disturbance in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
District Attorney Peter Weir's office said Friday that prosecutors have sought a transfer hearing, after which the teen, Miguel Ita, could be charged as an adult. The hearing was scheduled to take place on Sept. 3.
Ita is being held without bond at the juvenile detention center.
Details of what led to the teen's arrest haven't been released. An arrest affidavit in the case has been sealed.
