Sheriff Reviews Response To Waldo Canyon Fire
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is releasing a report on its response to a wildfire that killed two people and destroyed 347 houses in Colorado Springs last June.
The report is scheduled to be made public Thursday by Sheriff Terry Maketa.
The Waldo Canyon Fire charred 28 square miles and forced nearly 29,000 people from their homes.
Investigators said the fire was human-caused, but they still haven't said whether it was intentional or accidental.
City officials released their own self-evaluation this month. They identified several deficiencies, including inadequate food and water for some responders, confusion over the boundaries of evacuation areas and inadequate communications among some city employees.
