DENVER (AP) – Kenneth Faried left Denver’s game against Portland after spraining his left ankle in the opening minutes Sunday.

X-rays were negative and the Nuggets said he’s day to day.

Faried’s ankle buckled when he went in for a layup less than three minutes into the game, and he crumpled to the floor, covering his face. He needed his teammates’ help as he gingerly walked off.

The scene was similar to 10 days earlier when Danilo Gallinari blew out his left knee driving for a layup against Dallas.

Faried was averaging 11.7 points and a team-high 9.3 rebounds coming into the game.

Portland was without three starters: LaMarcus Aldridge (right ankle), Wesley Matthews (right ankle) and Nicolas Batum (right shoulder), so coach Terry Stotts started four rookies.
