Man Settles With Denver Over Oversized Political Sign For $1

DENVER (CBS4) - The City of Denver has settled a lawsuit with a local politician.

Michael Carr sued the city for violating his First Amendment rights. He was cited for hanging an oversized political campaign sign on his front porch.

Zoning laws stated the sign was too big but the city settled. They agreed to amend the code to increase sign sizes.

"We had a knock on the door from the Denver sign police that basically issued us a notice of violation and threatened my family with fines and jail time unless we take down the sign," Carr said last November. "Their zoning code is out of compliance with the First Amendment,"

Carr just received his settlement check to the tune of $1. He says it was always about his rights and not the money.
