Student Dies After Getting Hit Crossing The Street Near DU

DENVER (CBS4) - A 21-year-old University of Denver student died overnight after being hit by a car near the campus.

The crash happened at approximately 12:30 a.m. Friday in an area along Evans Avenue near South Williams Street where there is no crosswalk.

The victim has been identified as Wilson King, 20, from Illinois.

Mazen Aswed, the manager of Jerusalem's restaurant, said King was in his restaurant shortly before the incident. He said King and his friends frequent his restaurant.

"I knew these kids very well. We are very friendly with each other. I'm going to tell them to be just be careful. Don't drink a lot, don't cross the street. It's terrible. It's just a very sad story tonight," Aswed said.

Police said the driver stopped after the collision and cooperated with police. They said they are investigating the possibility that King had been drinking.
