DENVER (CBS4)– Denver celebrated the designation of Civic Center Park as a National Landmark on Wednesday.
A plaque is now in place in the park.
It’s one of only two civic centers in the country with the designation.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock invoked the words of former Mayor Speer who was the visionary behind the park decades ago.
“I believe it will do more than anything else to advertise Denver, attract the tourists, health and homeseekers, stimulate civic pride and encourage prosperity to abide with us,” said Hancock.
Hancock said the designation means Civic Center Park is a jewel of the nation as well as Denver and Colorado.
