Police Make Arrest In Deadly Hit & Run On Colorado Boulevard
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police have made an arrest in a deadly hit-and-run.
The crime happened near 9th and Colorado Boulevard at approximately 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Police say they found a man identified as Jonathan Daniel Lewis, 35, in the street. He died on scene just a few blocks from his home.
"Mr. Lewis had multiple injuries from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene," police said in a statement.
Police say evidence at scene such as car parts and tips from public absolutely led to an arrest in same day as the fatal hit-and-run. Nathan Beechley, 30, was arrested Tuesday afternoon. The car from the hit-and-run was also recovered in Aurora where the suspect lives.
"In this particular case, the information we received, once we started to develop that information, took us right to a certain location, and a certain person," Sgt. Mike Farr with Denver police said.
Police say Beechley is cooperating in the investigation. He has an extensive criminal history, including arrests for DUI and careless driving and a lot of other traffic violations.
On Beechley's Twitter page he describes himself as "a DU grad" and a "Huge family man."
Police say hit-and-runs are spiking and they are very concerned about the trend. Last year Denver had 13 fatal hit-and-runs. Police are concerned Denver will surpass that number in 2013. So far there have been four fatalities in three incidents.
