Investigators Question Person Of Interest After String Of Overnight Fires

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver fire investigators say they have been questioning a person after a string of fires in the Park Hill neighborhood.

Someone set nine fires overnight in the area between 23rd and 26th streets.

The arsonist set fire to cars, garages and even a bush.

One fire burned a warehouse rented by Spinelli's Market and caused extensive damage.

"The flames were jumping about three feet when I got here last night about 1:30 a.m., a quarter to 2 a.m. It was scary," store owner Jerry Spinelli said.

Kristine Hillhouse's Subaru was targeted inside her closed garage.

"Someone was very mentally unbalanced to do something like this," she said. "It's ruined the days for lots of people."

Police arrested someone in the vicinity at approximately 2 a.m. Monday as the fires were being reported. The suspect's name isn't being released but investigators believe he's responsible for all the damage. He also may have had the help of another person.

"It's just malicious mischief, it's not fair," Spinelli said.
