JeffCo Assault Suspect In Custody

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4)- Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies arrested an assault suspect on Saturday after a two-day search.

Xavier Sebastian McDaniel was arrested at his place of employment in Douglas County on Saturday.

McDaniel, 20, is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond for suspicion of first degree burglary and attempted sexual assault causing serious bodily injury.

"This guy was very violent and we needed to get him off the street," Mark Techmeyer with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.

JeffCo Sheriff's deputies believe McDaniel walked into an unlocked apartment in Jefferson County and attacked a teenage girl.

The crime was reported at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Thursday near West Bowles Avenue and South Simms Street.

The victim, a 15-year-old, was home alone at the time she was attacked by a man.

Deputies said the teen fought off her attacker but was hurt in the process. She was taken to Swedish Hospital where she was treated and released Thursday night.

Investigators located the SUV in the apartment complex where the attack happened. McDaniel is a resident of that complex.

"The response from the citizenship was great because they, in turn, came back to us with lots of tips and leads -- really helped put this together," Techmeyer said. "This is one brave girl. She fought, and she fought for her life. She did what I hope all of us would do in that situation where she was not going to allow herself to be a victim."

McDaniel is scheduled for his first court appearance on April 8 at 10 a.m.

Anyone with more information about the case is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Tip Line at (303) 271-5612.
