CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) – Coroner’s officials say a pilot who died when his single-engine plane crashed in a Colorado cow pasture was from suburban Denver.

The Douglas County Coroner’s Office said Monday that 27-year-old Jason Craig Bedford, of Englewood, died of blunt force injuries.

Sheriff’s officials have said the 1973 fixed-wing Cherokee Piper left Sandia Airpark in Edgewood, N.M., on Saturday. A ranch hand checking cows on the Winkler Ranch near Franktown south of Denver found the wreckage Sunday. Coroner’s officials worked with authorities in Texas and Colorado to identify Bedford through fingerprint records.

Sheriff’s officials have said Bedford was flying from New Mexico to Colorado to visit his girlfriend for Easter.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating what led to the crash.
