My Denver Card Opens Door To Pools, Rec Centers, Library

DENVER (CBS4)- The "My Denver Card" opens the door to the city's recreation centers, pools and libraries for the younger set in Denver.

The card gives all students in Denver ages five to 18 free access to the city's recreation centers and pools. It also serves as a Denver Public Library card.

"What we believe and I think what the people of Denver voted on in November is that if we invest in young people up front now then it's much more cost effective than to deal with them when they are idle and have nothing to do in our community," said Denver Mayor Michael Hancock.

"So the reality is we invest in them now, give them safe, healthy places to go, our rec centers, our libraries, our pools, during the summer months, year round, during summer camps, it's a great program."

A 12-year-old student came up with the idea.
