Boulder Couple Settles Lawsuit Over Death Of Dog

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- A couple from Boulder has settled their lawsuit over the death of their dog.

Sophie died in 2009 after she was prescribed Rimadyl following a surgery. The medication is supposed to help dogs with pain and arthritis.

Sophie's owners sued the drug's maker, Pfizer. Details of the settlement are not being released but it's not much relief to Sophie's owners.

"I don't have children so she was my baby," said Sophie's owner Chris Cooper. "You can't put a dollar amount on that. That's why it's not about the money. That's why Jennifer and I are going to use the funds to try to help other people not be in the situation that Shelly and I were in."

CBS4 Investigator Brian Maass first reported concerns about Rimadyl's safety in 2004. At that time some veterinarians said the benefits of Rimadyl outweigh the risks.
