Teen Tanning Bed Limits Win OK in Colorado House
DENVER (AP) - A ban on tanning bed use by children under 15 and new limits on tanning by older teens have won initial approval in the Colorado House.
A measure approved Tuesday would require a physician's note for kids under 15 to use commercial tanning beds. For teens 15 to 17, parents would have to give permission every six months before the teens could use tanning beds.
The tanning bill is a compromise. Dermatologists testified that they'd prefer a full ban on underage tanning bed use, while some Republicans argued parents should limit teen tanning bed use, not the state.
The tanning bed bill was approved on an unrecorded voice vote. A more formal vote is required before the measure heads to the Senate.
