DENVER (CBS4) – There are some updates on some major projects at Denver International Airport.
New construction has begun on the new Westin Hotel that’s scheduled to open in 2015.
This weekend girders will start appearing on Pena Boulevard that are part of the new rail line due to open in 2016.
The annual State of the Airport luncheon was held Tuesday, and the focus was expanding international service. On May 12 United will try again to launch its new direct flight to Tokyo. DIA’s first Asian route was delayed because of problems with the new Boeing Dreamliner aircraft.
“Kim Day and her team have been very intentional about connecting to the rest of the world,” Mayor Michael Hancock said. “It simply validates Denver as a global city.”
During the past year, DIA has added direct flights to Iceland, Mexico City and the Dominican Republic. The airport is trying to establish a direct flight to Panama and has its eyes set on flights to South America as well.
