2 Young Children Die In 2-Car Crash On US 50

DENVER (AP) - Authorities say two young children are dead following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 50 east of Gunnison.

The snowpacked roadway had been plowed and snow was falling when the crash occurred about 8 a.m. Saturday.

The Colorado State Patrol says a Chevrolet Cobalt traveling west went out of control and careened into the oncoming lane where it collided with another sedan.

The patrol says the two passengers in the Cobalt, a 5-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, were killed. And the driver, 22-year-old Jamie Dowling of Irving, Texas, was seriously hurt. The driver of the other car, a 23-year-old man from Gunnison, had minor injuries.

The patrol says everyone but Dowling had been wearing restraints.

No charges were immediately filed against either driver.
