ID Released Of Soldier Found Dead In Rape Inquiry

FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) — Fort Carson says a soldier who was found dead amid an investigation into a possible rape was a decorated 25-year veteran.

The Army said Thursday that 49-year-old Master Sgt. Joseph P. Bascio was found dead in his home on post Monday.

The cause of death hasn't been disclosed.

Fort Carson spokeswoman Dee McNutt says Bascio was one of two soldiers under investigation in a rape that might have happened over the weekend.

No charges have been filed and few details have been released. The second soldier hasn't been publicly identified.

Bascio had been awarded two Bronze Star Medals, the Army's 10th-highest decoration. He served three deployments in Iraq.

He was from Denver. He was a maintenance supervisor with a military police battalion in Fort Carson's 4th Infantry Division.
