LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) – Sixteen horses, including nine pregnant mares, now have a second chance on life thanks to some very generous individuals in Northern Colorado.
Denkai Animal Sanctuary found out about a group of horses on a Weld County feedlot that were scheduled to be slaughtered in Mexico the next day. The sanctuary sent out a notice for help and Dr. Susan Williams of Loveland immediately raised $3,000 in donations from her clients. It was enough money to rescue the majority of the animals.
“It just makes you feel good, it’s rewarding. As a veterinarian you go into the profession loving animals, and especially since I’m a horse vet, it’s near and dear to my heart,” Williams said.
The group is fostering many of the horses around Northern Colorado.
