Two of the rescued horses (credit: CBS)
LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) – Sixteen horses, including nine pregnant mares, now have a second chance on life thanks to some very generous individuals in Northern Colorado.
Denkai Animal Sanctuary found out about a group of horses on a Weld County feedlot that were scheduled to be slaughtered in Mexico the next day. The sanctuary sent out a notice for help and Dr. Susan Williams of Loveland immediately raised $3,000 in donations from her clients. It was enough money to rescue the majority of the animals.
βIt just makes you feel good, it’s rewarding. As a veterinarian you go into the profession loving animals, and especially since I’m a horse vet, it’s near and dear to my heart,β Williams said.
The group is fostering many of the horses around Northern Colorado.
For more information on how to adopt one of the horses, or how to help take care of them, call the Denkai Sanctuary at (970) 217-1457 or visit denkaisanctuary.org.
