DENVER (CBS4)- One group is calling on the governor for a statewide moratorium on fracking.
Members of the group “What The Frack, Arapahoe County” delivered 14,000 signatures to Gov. John Hickenlooper’s office.
The group consists of farmers, environmentalists and religious leaders.
They want a ban on new drilling until more is known about the impact of fracking on the environment.
“Hold off, stop this process until you’ve examined what the risks are. Stop taking risks on behalf of all of Colorado until you’ve done the research,” said anti-fracking activist Sonia Skakich-Scrima.
Hickenlooper said he plans to take any city that bans fracking to court.
“Essentially what they’re saying is, ‘We ban anyone from getting getting those minerals out from what they bought, from what they paid for.’ It’s not fair,” said Hickenlooper.
